Is creating graphic design for print media different to designing for digital?
On the face of it, graphic design for print media and design for digital media look like they should be the exact same thing… but this isn’t the case! Of course “graphic design” is an art form in its own right and as such can sit comfortably in both camps, but it’s the application of the design skills that defines how the two areas of production differ. By its very nature, design for print is a much more tangible and hands-on experience where, from the outset, the aim is to design and produce a piece of stationery or literature that will be used to interact directly with clients and customers face-to-face, on a daily basis. Although less technically complex in many respects to designing for digital media, design for print has its own challenges and it takes expertise and experience in the industry to be able to understand how these challenges can effect the outcome.
